For the past 28 years I have wanted to traverse the United States on foot (first I wanted to run but now I know it will only be walking). It is finally going to happen. I intend to start my adventure on 2 March 2019. Unfortunately I am still having problems figuring out the route since I’m so poor at maps. But I will start in Califonia (probably Oceanside) and right now am leaning toward ending in Jacksonville, Florida. As this will be unsupported (since I don’t have anyone who can crew me), it’s both exhilarating and frightening. I have my cart and have had so much planning help from Jan Redmond Walker and am so very grateful to her for everything she’s helped me with. My original goal was to try to make it to Tennessee in time that I could do Vol State as part of my transcon but a) I don’t know if i can make it there in time and b) since I want to end in Jacksonville I’m told that’s a waste of extra miles. So I am at an impasse and I don’t know what to do. Why am I doing this? I want to finally see the country I served for 30 years and I want to honor veterans across America. I also want to show people that you shouldn’t let age keep you from following your dreams. I turned 70 last month but even that is old to most people I feel good right now after rebounding from 2 years worth of discouraging health issues. People get depressed when they are aging and I want to show them that they don’t have to give up. Right now I can use all the support I can get and of course I will need support all during my walk. I’ve created a page called Honoring Veterans Across America and you can find it at https://www.facebook.com/terriestrek/
